Pandemic Preparation Plan
Needed to be in place before the plan is needed:
o All Edline activation codes distributed and activated
o Parent survey to determine tech resources at home & skill level
o Staff survey to determine tech resources at home & skill level
o Resource listing of online textbooks
o Student accounts set up on DE Streaming
Resources needed to be purchased:
o Microphones for teachers to record audio files
o Laptops to be reserved for rental if school closes
o Winzip Software
o Additional licenses for Renzulli Learning?
o Additional iFlip video cameras
Resources currently in place that will be utilized for distance learning:
1. Staff prepares 3 weeks of general emergency plans in electronic form to prepare for the possibility that during a school closure the staff member may be sick. Examples:
o Post a list of creative writing topics to write in a journal everyday
o Read a story with your parents everyday & fill out a story map
o Post a list of vocab, spelling and/or sight words with strategies to learn 5 per week
2. Training for teachers:
a. Edline – homework hand-in, interactive classroom, posting assignments consistently, uploading audio files
b. Using Smart Notebook software – Recorder
c. Creating PDF documents, scanning
d. Using HC library resources
e. DE Streaming – assigning videos to classes
f. Creating videos with iFlip cameras & webcams
3. Training for students:
a. Edline – homework hand-in , interactive classroom
b. DE streaming
c. Accessing online textbooks
4. Information/Resources for parents
a. Navigating Edline efficiently
b. Sample daily schedule for home instruction
Step 2: 15% of students out sick
1. Teachers use Edline & Email to keep students informed of classwork & homework.
2. Hard copies & snail mail used for students without internet access
3. Teachers add audio to Smart Notebook files so students can view lessons at home.
4. Teachers zip Smartboard lessons & post to Edline
5. Science teachers can use iFlip video cameras to videotape labs & post to Edline
6. Math teachers utilize Smart Recorder to record solving difficult math problems
7. Team time used for this with support from Tech Team
8. Identified families who would need to check out a laptop sign agreement
9. Parent meeting/training to prepare for the possibility of school closure
o How much instruction should take place everyday
o How to keep track of instruction
o Using Edline
o Using online textbook resources
Step 3: 25-30% of students out sick (at least 15% of staff): School Closes for 12 weeks
1. Students permitted to take additional books/magazines/resources out of library
2. Laptops with internet access rented for identified students & staff without computers at home
3. Teachers will utilize Edline as the hub for distance learning and to continue with instruction.
4. Staff members who are ill will post their 3 week plans to Edline.
5. Parents will utilize the chart to keep track of student’s daily instruction.
6. Teachers will utilize the discussion board through Edline to assist parents and older students.
7. Parents may use the Learning at Home resources posted to Edline to augment instruction
